It’s shaping up to be quite guest list with many new faces, including several new ones from Jenkintown itself! There should be at least two guests from Massachusetts, maybe two from New Hampshire, and one from Connecticut. Louise, Cecelia, and I are looking forward to seeing every one of you.
We expect that there will plenty of food, but please remember this is a BYOB affair. We will provide an ample selection of non-alcoholic beverages. If you have an extra cooler, please consider bringing it with you. We never seem to have enough space.
Randy expects to have the pork ready about 5pm, which means he’ll be up well before the crack of dawn to get the smoker going. So, if you find him a little dazed and confused, go easy on him. It’s not just the beer or the effects of fathering a 14 year old.
Can’t wait to see everyone!
This weekend, Randy made the Garbtoberfest chili. We like to make it in advance and freeze the bulk of it because it always tastes better a week later after all the ingredients get to groove with each other. The safety glasses are necessary because this is industrial strength stuff.
Garbtoberfest, an evening of pork, beer, music, and sidewalks will be coming soon. Watch this space for announcements and more information. Invites are on the way out, and we hope to see you there.
For those of you coming from outside of the Philadelphia area, most of the better lodging options are close to the Turnpike, particularly in Willow Grove and Fort Washington. We suggest booking with Expedia. Airbnb is also an option. If you decide to make a whole weekend of it and visit Philadelphia, please not that our house is a short walk from the Jenkintown/Wyncote Train station, and trains frequently run up from the city. Check the SEPTA timetables here.
We generally use Pandora to provide the music for Garbtoberfest. It makes for a great set-it-and-forget-it option while we busy ourselves catering to our guests. You can listen to what we plan to play here.
This year we’re adding homemade chili to the Garbtoberfest menu! Based on a recipe swiped from the Super Duper Weenie, this chili has evolved over the years and now has a few “secret” ingredients not found in the Super Duper version.
It’s time again for our annual Garbtoberfest celebration! Randy smokes a pork shoulder and Louise whips up the fixin’s!
Festivities begin at 3:00 pm! Feel free to bring your favorite side dishes, beverage(s), and plenty to talk about.
We’ll be posting updates on this page as the event grows closer.
