This is the big gardening weekend, three weeks later than planned. Because of a thrown back and a nearly impromptu vacation last week, we had to put it all off until this Memorial Day weekend, but at least we’ve so far had near-perfect weather.
This year, however, saw a great new enthusiasm in our daughter for gardening. She couldn’t wait to get out there and start digging, planting, and (at times) helping. At Primex, our local nursery and gardening store, Cecelia wanted to go on a buying spree and get just about every flower she could lay her hands on. We somehow managed to temper this desire, but Cecelia will be responsible for at least two plants this year.
This year, we’ll plant mostly the same things we planted last year. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, cukes, carrots (maybe), and pole beans. Nothing out of the ordinary, though Louise will attempt to spread more wildflowers around the back yard and hopefully we won’t see any more hemlock!
